The Palliative Care Fund has been designed to provide funding for the county-wide Palliative Care Program operated under the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) Northern Zone. It funds such things as equipment, services, training, “last” ambulance service for patients coming to or leaving hospital, refreshments for families waiting bedside with their dying loved one, and a variety of other items required to enhance Palliative Care services for patients and their families.
The Palliative Care Fund also provides a helping hand when all other avenues of funding have been explored and/or exhausted for Cumberland County residents, in need, who are being treated under the Palliative Care Program. Donations to the Palliative Care Fund may help to provide patients with transportation assistance as they pursue treatments, food & nutritional assistance, home-alert services and equipment rentals to help those who wish to remain at home, and other areas as identified by the Palliative Team as being required to support the patient with care and comfort.
Since the launch of the Palliative Care Program, with the first request received on April 9, 2013, the Foundation has provided assistance to hundreds of Cumberland County patients and contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in support.
