Because Every Shift is a Marathon!

Dr. Janneke Gradstein’s Marathon in support of our fabulous ER staff!

Dr. Janneke Gradstein is running away! But instead of leaving us, she is running to support a department at our hospital that means a great deal to her—the Emergency Department.  Later this month, Dr. Gradstein will run a full marathon of 42.2 km to honour those who work so diligently, and with enormous dedication, in the ER.

"I appreciate all the people that I work with at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre; we are really blessed with fantastic hospital staff in Amherst! This fall I retired from my work in the Emergency Department and I am running a marathon to specifically thank the ER staff for many great years of working together on my shifts," Dr. Gradstein told us. "I am really doing this to raise awareness of what a courageous, smart and hard-working team we have there. They themselves really run a marathon every shift!"

The plan is for Dr. Gradstein to run on Saturday, February 27th (with the 26th or the 28th as alternates if the weather is uncooperative). Her route will take her 42.2 km through Cumberland County and she may be joined in 10 km relays by members of her family who have been training with her for this special event.

"I'm asking individuals, groups or businesses to sponsor one of those 42kms for $50 each. The money raised will go towards the hospital foundation's Health Care Professions Recruitment and Retention Fund, to support those hard working staff that race each day to provide the best patient care."

Please consider making a donation and providing words of support to Dr. Gradstein and the fabulous ER staff! We know how much they will appreciate hearing from you.

The goal of this fund is to assist in attaining and maintaining a full complement of RN’s, LPN’s, CCA’s, technicians, physio and rehab therapists, and other health care professionals  in Cumberland County. Recruitment and retention efforts aim to provide supports and resources to attract professionals and their families to Cumberland, and enhance their work experiences.
